UPDATE - 10/12/1

Parents;
Sorry I'm SOOOO late with this update.  I feel like I'm a week behind!

There IS a race this Saturday - details below.  It's the Winder-Barrow  Invitational. Great race with a nice course. Bus leaves at 6:15 - yes in the am -  from Duluth HS.  Race starts at 8:00 am with the varsity girls.  This race is pretty cool - we'll also have some of our Middle School runners joining us and running at 10:40 and11:20 - my 6
th grader is running!! Great chance to see some of our up and coming teammates potentially.

This Friday - I totally forgot to arrange for a dinner.  HOWEVER - Dianne Ogden and Debbie Pitts more than graciously stepped up to host the dinner!! THANK YOU!  Since its Homecoming - we'll start early at 5:30pm and go to 7:00pm so the kids can then go to the game.

Address:

4324 Balmoral Glen Dr

Berkeley Lake, GA

Florida update - I had a blast with the runners in Florida - despite it being pretty wet.  Had a nice race Saturday - tougher course than anticipated - lots of sand out in the woods that made it a little tougher.  But the runners did well.  We had a couple of top finishers who medaled in the race - Freddie Carpinello finished 14thin Varsity Boys, Sarah Clark finished 4th in the JV girls, Matthew Law finished 4th in the JV boys....and the BIG WINNER was Ben Kucera who won the JV Boys race!!! Overall the teams did well - with a 4thplace Varsity Boys finish and a 5th place Varsity Girls finish.

Then we headed to the beach for some R&R - had some good sun...maybe too much for a few :)

And then the rain came!!! Lots and lots of rain.  Supposed to go to Busch Gardens but we took them to dinner and a movie that night instead.  Had a good time.  Sunday we figured the rain would en......and it kept on coming.  So we went bowling instead.  Had a good time.  Finally got to Busch Gardens - where it was still raining but ended up getting a couple rides in right before heading home.  All I can say is the Cheetah Rollercoaster is pretty awesome!

I really want to again thank all the parents for having some great kids.  I had a good time with them on the trip and they were really well behaved and we had a good time.  Hopefully they also enjoyed it and are already looking forward to next year!

That's it for now....I'll try to do better next week :)

Thanks

Mike

Weekly Update - 8/30/11

Great first week of the season!  Congrats to all the runners in the Stage Races.  Saw a lot of good effort, some good times and was a fun event.  Hopefully everyone enjoyed the race.  Special thanks to our volunteers - Mark Keller (Race Setup and tear down), Amy Waldheim and Dixie Kucera (Food).

Lessons learned the first week (for me anyway) -  The Spaghetti dinner was a lot of fun!  The kids really are a great group, had fun, were SO POLITE AND WELL MANNERED, and they ate a TON of food!!!!!  We cooked 6 lbs of noodles and 4 lbs of meat sauce and it was GONE quickly.  Special thanks to Kathryn Lally for helping out with cooking!  The other thing we learned - we ended up with too much bread and need to figure that out.  We had a lot of Gatoraid - but we just took that to the race the next day which worked out perfectly!  To all the parents - you should be EXTREMELY proud of your kids - again they were so well mannered and polite at our house and it was a great time!

Dues - we still have a lot of outstanding dues.  If you've not paid, please do so quickly.  Contact myself or Kathryn Lally - you can give the check to coach and he'll forward it to us.

Florida Trip - planning is well underway!  Thanks to Bruce Radman for getting it going - he's got the bus booked, the hotel setup (got a nice place this year!) and is working on Busch Gardens tickets.  So far we're on track budget wise.  More info will be coming soon!

Fundraiser - we're also working on this as we speak.  Info to come out hopefully end of this week or early next week so we can get going on the Florida fund raising to help offset the costs.  Once your runner has earned over $100 - any additional proceeds raised will go directly to offset the cost of the trip.

Next races and Schedule updatesn - War Eagle Invitational in Gainsville 9/6/11.  Tough course - come out and cheer on the runners if you can.  9/10/11 is the Carrolton Invitational in Carrolton.  9/17 is the County meet at River Green.  The Windward Challenge date moved to 9/15 and likely we will not participate - Coach is looking for an alternative if possible.

Volunteers - for the 9/10 race - I need some help with the meet setup.  If someone has a truck who can carry the tent - I need some help.  I also need help with food - the next 2 on the list are Kris Manglona and Sherry Wiltshire - I'll be contacting you the week of the race.

Pictures - I've posted pictures from the spaghetti dinner and the Stage Races.  If you have some good pix - please send them to me!!!

Facebook - we're working on also updating our Facebook page.  I'm not a facebook user but will see if I can get it updated.

As usual - if you have any questions/comments/etc - contact Mike Whitley.

Weekly Update - 8/21/11

Thanks to all who attended the parent meeting - we had a good turnout and a lot of volunteers.  We're still collecting the information and will try to get an emailer started to distribute these updates.

News:

  • 8/27 - the Stage Races at River Green.  Please check the schedule.  There will be no bus.  Please be at the DHS Purple tent at least 1 hour prior to your race - sooner if possible so they can cheer on their teammates!

  • Spaghetti Dinner - at the Whitley's on 8/26.  We will send out directions with the runners on Friday.

  • Volunteers - I will contact each volunteer early this week to confirm times and needs.  Meet setup - plan to pick up tent, table and coolers Friday afternoon after practice - setup will be at 6:30 Saturday at River Green.  Food volunteers - I will set up a list of meets and parents to be sent out - we should be able to have 2 volunteers per race.  Plan to bring bagels (blueberry, cinnamon and regular - mini's), banana's, oranges (please quarter them if possible) - plan for enough for 2 each per runner (we're planning on having about 50 runners at this point.

  • Water - please note - I need to change the water request to 2 cases per family due to the # of runners and races.  Please plan to bring these cases to the Spaghetti dinner this Friday.

  • Meet setup - we will still need some help with setup volunteers.  I will post an update shortly on what meets are open.

  • Thanks to all who paid dues at the parent meeting - for those who still need to please turn in checks to coach soon.  THANKS!

Other

  • Pictures - please email pictures to me to get onto our website!  email them to whitlem@cisco.com and I will post quickly.  Definitely need to get the Milk Run pictures!

  • Florida Trip - we're working on setup of the trip.  Again we will try to have PayPal set up shortly and will provide a payment plan.  Preliminary budget is $225 each.  We will have a parent meeting mid-Sept to review and will provide regular updates as we firm things up.

  • Fundraisers - we are still working on setup.  Please stay tuned.  I hope to have this started in the next 2 weeks.

If you have any questions, comments or input - please contact Mike Whitley.  Contact information is under the Booster Club section.
